Jane Nicholl’s visit to Southwest Tasmania with Tasmanian Boat Charters revealed a wonderland of birdlife and pioneering heritage.
“We cruised in luxury aboard Odalisque around this spectacular, wild corner of the world and imagined the lives the King and Willson families made here from the 1940s. For some 35,000 years before the British came in the early 1800s and removed them from their homelands, this was the home of the Needwonnee people. Their middens and petroglyphs remain, along with a beautiful interpretive walk near Melaleuca airstrip. And, yes, we saw lots of orange-bellied parrots and so many other birds. I was in heaven.”
